This site asks people to write down where their will is kept and what they’d want at their funeral. It should say plainly who is asking, and what we will and won’t do with it.

We are a small Australian team, and this is the only thing we make. It exists because the weeks after a death are spent almost entirely on a search — for which bank, which super fund, whether there was insurance at all, and where the will was actually kept. Almost none of that is written down anywhere, and the one person who knew is the person who died.
We are not solicitors and not financial advisers, and we have deliberately built the folder so it never needs us to be. It asks what you know and records where things are found. Every question where the honest answer is “ask someone qualified” says exactly that.
The most valuable thing in the folder is probably the superannuation section, and it is also where we are most careful.
We will tell you to check whether a binding death benefit nomination exists, and to write down the date it was made. We will never tell you whether to make one, what kind to make, or who to name. That is financial advice, it requires a licence we don’t hold, and the consequences land on your family rather than on us. The same applies to wills: a missing will gets you a referral to a solicitor or your state’s Public Trustee, never a template and never a nudge.
